Acoustic Barriers  >Woven

Since the stone age, the Willow tree has been crafted and transformed into practical and beautiful products. This historical tradition has led to the inspiration for the design of environmentally friendly sound barriers for noise abatement, fencing and screening; The Green Barrier™ in woven willow.

DESIGN
The Green Barrier™ in woven willow is a product where double units, when assembled incorporating a RockDelta® core, are unbeatable as a sound barrier.

The woven barrier was developed due to the need to create an aesthetically unique and effective barrier. Whilst at the same time meeting technical standards as well as the need for long life expectancy and minimal maintenance. When combined with RockDelta®, they offer first class noise abatement.

  • From time of installation, the barrier has an aesthetically pleasing appearance, made out of willow, hardwood and some steel.
  • After a period of years, the willow elements become reinforced by Ivy and other evergreens, which by then have covered the barrier.

When used as a sound barrier, combined with the absorbent RockDelta® core, tested and approved in the highest noise-absorption and noise-reduction class, a reduction of between 25 -31db can be achieved. Life expectancy is 25 + years.

AESTHETICS
All good designs integrate technology and practical product solutions with an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

  • The woven willow is an integral part of the construction. Load bearing yet decorative, it forms the outer construction of the barrier.
  • Made from natural and living materials, the barriers blend into both urban and rural surroundings.
  • The woven and dried willow rods create a colourful and glowing surface - generally with red, green and orange/brown nuances.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Constructed from locally grown willow and hardwood, all produced in sustainably managed European forests.
  • Willow is produced in non-intensive coppice plantations – providing natural habitats for local flora, fauna and wildlife.
  • All materials used can be fully recycled.

CONSTRUCTION
The Green Barrier™ in woven willow consists of 2 to 3 year old willow rods, of selected species and types of willow, woven firmly around galvanised tubes, held in a wooden frame. This enables rapid and simple construction with the panels being easily handled. The elements are concreted directly into the ground.

The woven Green Barrier is ideal for north facing, dry and shady locations, where conditions preclude the use of living willow.

  • Sound barriers are 45 cm. wide.
  • Freestanding, the barriers have a maximum height of 3.5 m. (4.0m with care in certain situations) With construction on top of soil bunding, however, additional height can be achieved.
  • Materials are calculated according to height, exposure and wind pressure on the barrier. The elements are thin, light-weight and versatile. They offer many options for designers and architects.
  • Construction techniques are straightforward whether for simple fencing or the creation of sound control barriers.
  • With installation possible at any time of year there is no limit to construction period.
  • Rapid, low cost construction.
  • Minimal maintenance costs.

MAINTENANCE
The Green Barrier™ in woven willow requires very little maintenance. After the first evergreens have become well established, in the early years of growth, the remaining lifespan of the barrier requires almost no maintenance at all.

  • The planting of ivy, and other evergreens if desired, along with drip irrigation is strongly recommended.
  • It is vandal and graffiti resistant. Natural materials very seldom encourage graffiti and woven willow does not provide a receptive surface.
